Academy 2019-2020

SSA Academy Program (Ages 8U-12U)

The Swansboro Soccer Association (SSA) Coastal Force Youth Academy mission is to develop the heart, mind, and body of our young athletes by developing their individual skills and knowledge with a dedicated and supportive staff that models what they teach/coach. The Youth Academy Staff is fully committed to the development of our player’s love for the game and fundamental skill development as a player as well as skills on how to succeed in the game of life.

What is the NCYSA/SSA Youth Academy? The Youth Academy is “strictly” a Player Development Program which seeks to improve individual player skills, satisfaction and retention, and to build a less pressured and fun youth soccer environment for coaches, adult spectators, and match officials. The 8U through 12U SSA Youth Academies are designed to teach the individual fundamental skills which are absolutely necessary to fully enjoy and compete in the sport of soccer. These skills are best learned by providing clear examples through repetition, proper guidance/instruction and applying the self-discovery approach/method.

The Academy serves as an instructional program for players ages 8U through 12U who are seeking a more structured environment than Recreational Soccer, but may not be ready for the competition, travel, and cost of associated with the Classic Soccer Program. The Youth Academy consist of player pools in 3-4 different training groups depending on the number of participants, their skill level or age of those participants. The player pools and/or training groups will be divided into teams for play during each Festival weekend. Academy pool teams have the liberty of adjusting (up or down) their rosters as needed at each festival to ensure the proper level of competition is always achieved.

The Youth Academy is designed to remove the results oriented, "must win at all cost" mentality associated with youth soccer and sports in general. All Academy Festivals will be played without published or recorded scoring and equal playing time is guaranteed for all participants who attend training on a regular basis and maintain a good attitude and attendance throughout their tenure.

All Academy Coaches are required to hold a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) age appropriate coaching qualifications/licenses that provide the knowledge and understanding of how children learn at different ages, stages, and curriculum's that are developmentally appropriate for all children. The Academy Coaching Staff is specially selected and trained to provide introduction to select soccer players in an environment conducive to learning and having FUN! All Academy Coaches are hold either National or Regional Licenses.

Players interested in the Academy Program must participate in an Open Academy Player Assessment. Open assessments usually occur at the end of each Season (May and November time frame). This is not a "tryout" process resulting in a player being cut; rather, it is an opportunity for players, parents, and coaches to assess the suitability of the program to the player's stage of development and to determine if Academy placement is suitable.  This program requires a year (June-Feb Fall/Spring) round commitment and does have a financial cost (Club Fees/Team Fees).

Uniform Costs (not included in registration cost) are estimated at $108.31 +Tax and Shipping.  All SSA Players will be required to purchase an Adidas official SSA uniform. Uniforms will be obtained/ purchased through soccer.com.  You will receive an email from soccer.com when your uniform is ready to be ordered.  Jersey Numbers will be selected during your registration process.  Please ensure that you select Jersey number for your player and an alternate number during the registration process.  SSA has the ultimate call on Jersey Numbers.

Competitive Classic/Select Play 2019-2020

Competitive Classic/Select Play (Ages 11U-19U)

As you may know this type of play is for the families looking for more focus and more commitment.  The Classic/Select Play program will be a reward and continuation for the players who have played, worked and committed to being successful soccer players and have begun to reach the next step in their journey.  Classic/Select Play will continue to open the doors to play against more competitive teams, and facilitate exposure to quality coaches for their individual development.  For the older age groups, Classic/Select Play provides increased opportunity for players to be seen by college coaches.

This program requires a year (June-Feb Fall/Spring) round commitment and does have a financial cost (Club Fees $250.00-$500.00 and Team Fees for Referees, Tournaments, and team travel on average total around $200.00). Classic/Select level of play is a statewide league, with games scheduled through NCYSA.  A Classic/Select schedule typically includes eight to twelve regular season matches with half home and half away.  Classic/Select is a level of talent above the recreation player and must demonstrate skills to keep up with the program.  Classic/Select teams in the same age divisions remain approximately equal in strength and competition.

Classic/Select players should expect to practice two or three times a week (1 hour to 2 hours per).  Most all games are played on the weekends but may be played on week nights for rescheduled/makeup games.  SSA Classic/Select Soccer is coached by a trained coaching staff, Classic/Select teams playing 11U to 14U have a fall and spring season.  Fall beginning in August/September ending in November.  Spring beginning in January and ends in May.

-Girls 15U to 18U play the Fall season only but are eligible to play Recreation Spring season (SSA will cover cost of Rec registration on these players).  -Boys 15U to 18U play Spring season only but are eligible to play Recreation Fall season (SSA will cover cost of Rec registration on these players).

Uniform Costs (not included in registration cost) are estimated at $108.31 +Tax and Shipping.  All SSA Players will be required to purchase an Adidas official SSA uniform.  Players are not required to purchase a new jersey if they already have an Adidas jerseys from prior season with current team assigned number. Uniforms will be obtained/ purchased through soccer.com.  You will receive an email from soccer.com when your uniform is ready to be ordered.  Jersey Numbers will be selected during your registration process.  Please ensure that you select Jersey number for your player and an alternate number during the registration process.  SSA has the ultimate call on Jersey Numbers.  Required Competitive uniform kit consists of Adidas SSA (1) "Yellow" jersey, (1) “Black” Jersey, (1) “Grey” Warm Up Jersey, (1) Adidas Black short, and (1) Adidas Black socks.

***Program(s) will only be available based on the birth year matrix.  Coaches will determine when/if players should "play-up" in birth year, but only after being evaluated at age appropriate tryouts.

2020 Spring Micro Recreation Soccer

Micro Recreational Soccer (Ages 3U-8U)

Swansboro Micro Soccer is being offered to introduce younger children to developing physical and social skills through soccer.  Micro play consists of weekly practices and games. Players will be guided through various engaging, imaginative, and fun soccer based activities by our volunteer staff.

If this is your first time playing a sport through the SSA, you are required to turn in a copy of the participant’s Birth Certificate.  We highly encourage that you upload a copy to your players profile by logging in to your account, selecting your players profile, scrolling down to "Upload Birth Certificate" and clicking button.

Uniform Costs (not included in registration cost) are estimated at $23.93 +Tax and Shipping.  All SSA Players will be required to purchase an Adidas official SSA uniform. Uniforms will be obtained/ purchased through soccer.com.  You will receive an email from soccer.com when your uniform is ready to be ordered.  Jersey Numbers will be selected during your registration process.  Please ensure that you select Jersey number for your player and an alternate number during the registration process.  SSA has the ultimate call on Jersey Numbers.  Required Micro Recreation uniform kit consists of Adidas SSA (1) Yellow jersey.

Players moving up to 9U Recreation should be able to wear (depending on growth) this jersey when they move up and will only need to purchase (1) SSA Adidas short, and (1) SSA Adidas socks. 

Teams will be formed by 1 February 2020.  Players will be contacted after this date regarding practice dates, times and locations.  SSA will consider all team requests, with no guarantees.  Coaches and Volunteers are needed for all age groups. (Please indicate at Registration)

Games begin on 22 February 2020.  All games are played on home fields.  SSA Home fields are located at 1202 Hammocks Beach Rd, Swansboro NC 28584

Teams are formed based on the BIRTH YEAR of the participant.  January 1 through December 31 is a playing age group.

2020 Spring (ECSA) Recreation Soccer

Recreation (ECSA) Program (Ages 9U-19U) 

Swansboro Recreation Soccer Program is being offered to introduce children to developing physical and social skills through soccer.  Recreation play consists of weekly practices and games.  Players will be guided through various engaging, imaginative, and fun soccer-based activities by our volunteer staff.

Team schedules for play will vary Saturdays and Sundays.  All games will be scheduled by East Carolina Soccer Association (ECSA), not SSA.  SSA has no control over schedules and schedule changes.  Games will be scheduled for home and away fields. Travel could include Carteret (Morehead City), Craven (New Bern), Onslow, and Duplin (Beulaville) counties.

Teams will begin forming approximately 1 February. The ECSA Recreation Fall Season game play should start around 22 February.  Once a team is formed your coach will notify you of practice dates, times and locations.  Practice is normally twice a week and times are set by the volunteer coach.  Team requests will be taken into consideration, no guarantees.

Uniform Costs (Not included in registration cost) are estimated at $44.70 +Tax and Shipping.  All SSA Players will be required to purchase an Adidas official SSA uniform. Uniforms will be obtained/ purchased through soccer.com.  You will receive an email from SOCCER.COM when your uniform is ready to be ordered.  Jersey Numbers will be selected during your registration process.  Please ensure that you select Jersey number for your player and an alternate number (example #1, #10, or #24) during the registration process.  SSA has the ultimate call on Jersey Numbers.  Required Recreation uniform kit consists of Adidas SSA (1) "Yellow" jersey, (1) Adidas Black short, and (1) Adidas Black socks.

As an all-Volunteer Recreational Program Swansboro Soccer looks for volunteers  (Concessions, Coaches, and Field Maintenance etc.). If you selected to be a volunteer with SSA, the club will contact you regarding volunteer positions or you may contact us directly if interested in assisting.
